Lucern - Switzerland
Switzerland is one of my favorite places on this trip! The air is pure, no pollution, no fumes. The grass along the roads is like a green velvet carpet. It’s so peaceful. Love it here!
Visited Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen (near the border of Switzerland and Germany) before arriving at our hotel in Lucern.
We stayed right on Lake Lucerne – our room had an unobstructed view of the lake. The fog on the lake in the early mornings makes you feel like you’re not really here on earth, but on some dreamland. So surreal, so unbelievably beautiful.
We took the funicular railway (one of Switzerland’s oldest mountain railways) to the first platform. From the station Kalti, a modern cable car brought us up to the peak of 6,300 ft. The Alpine views from the top of the mountain are absolutely breathtaking! Pictures do not even come close.
We then toured Europe’s most scenic lake by a private boat. The true beauty of Lake Lucerne is revealed as we cruise the tranquil water and enjoy the stunning scenery of snow-capped mountains, green pastures and dense forests. Lots of celebrities have properties along this lake (Elizabeth Taylor, Sophie Lauren, George Clooney, etc.)
We then visited the city of Lucern:
Chapel Bridge – Lucern’s main landmark
Lion Monument – the dying lion of Lucern, carved into natural rock, was created in 1820/1821 in memory of the Swiss heroes who gave their lives at the Tuileries in Paris 1792
Jesuit Church – one of Switzerland’s most beautiful baroque churches, built in 1677.
I started to get sick the last night we were here. I was a bit sad to leave this city. But I had Italy and France to look forward to.
